2442 Steps To Crazy: The Beginning by D. Paul Fleming, D. Paul Fleming

4.0

This is a book is written in first person narrative style where the narrator is a boy who grows up in an abusive background. Being abused by a tyrant-like stepfather  and a mother who turns a blind eye just because she needs to secure her marriage , the boy strives a lot to survive without getting lost. From suffering to confronting, the character grows up but the ending is ambiguous. Either way , the book delivers a set of strong messages to the readers and the society.

The boy addresses his stepfather as " Crazy ". When the boy was in a very young age he loses faith upon law and police as Crazy always finds a way to fool the law. Nevertheless  he learns to liberate against Crazy's craziness as the years pass by. He learns to confront other bullies and finds a new goal in life despite the abusive background. There were times I badly needed to go hug the boy and whisper that everything will be alright. Apart from the mc , I loved the characters; the coach , the aunt and his friend.

I recommend this book to anyone who is strong enough to read a jarring story.
