Having read One Summer, I was particularly excited to read another volume from Bryson.

I must confess that this one didn't capture me as much as the first book did. Bryson's laidback style, and quick with were still there, and no less entertaining than last time, but his inclination to be a bit snearing at working types got tiresome in places. That was a downer, and more than once I found myself thinking"That's unnecessary."

The trip is thoroughly enjoyable, with Bryson typically finding the road less traveled, and showing us much more than the average travel guide gives you. My favourite part was the long drive to Uluru, where him and his companion filled the long, open space with good humour and enjoyable anecdotes.

This books makes me want to travel to this much forgotten country!
