Peter Pan
by J. M. Barrie
My kids and I listened to this on CD upon suggestion from *The Well-Trained Mind.* Actually, though, I discovered that at home I'd rather read books to them then put on a CD. So now I know. Still, they enjoyed the bits they listened to pretty well. I liked the story. I discovered Peter's probably more annoying in the book than in the Disney movie. It gave me new appreciation of when people are described as having a Peter Pan complex. Mr. Darling is even more annoying than in the movie too, actually, I thought. I love that the story can appeal both to grown-ups and children and it tells the story on two different levels to make that happen. I like getting a better glimpse into the children's feelings in the book. And I love the magical, child-like, endless feel of the story -- how the children go away with Peter for generation after generation.
