I received this book as an ARC for free in exchange for an honest review. The book will be published on 21st July.
I was so excited for this book, a dark sapphic romance filled with feminine rage and some hot spice. I am partial to a possessive MC too. And add in a bit of a murder mystery, of course this book had my hopes high!
This book is on the short side, 286 pages, which makes it fast paced and easily digestible. I read the first half in one sitting before realising I had gotten that far into it! Danielle and Blair are likable unhinged characters, and it's nice to see some coeliac disease representation. Their individual journeys through the plot as well as their relationship development have you eager to read on to figure them out and discover more. They really suit eachother so well, great chemistry and great to see their softer/sweet sides too.
However, this book just didn't reach my expectations sadly. I was hungry for so much more, more drama and spice and mystery! But it just lacked that for me, like at times it would feel like it was rising to maybe meet it and then would be over with quickly. The twist at the end should have given me a much bigger impact than it did.
I did enjoy this read. I think it's a great quick read for someone looking for something slightly darker, especially if they are just dipping their toes into the dark romance genre for the first time. But sadly, it just missed the mark for being great for me.
