Summer of the Dragon by Elizabeth Peters

2.0

Quickest of reads, the most basic and straight-forward of plots. No sense of atmosphere or thrills. Twists and turns you can see from a mile away. Characters just lively enough enact the plot with competence, and not a jot more uniqueness nor interest provided beyond that. (For example: FL is a feminist and loves to eat... the end.)

That's my overall verdict: competent, professional, workmanlike. No doubt the author could churn 5 books of these type in a year in her day.
