This was painfully underwhelming. All the makings of what would be a great story (and the hype) that unfortunately underserved. The characters were flat and the politics and world building were not fleshed out. This book would’ve benefitted from a map. The writing style felt confusing at times, particularly in areas where the FMC is “dreaming” as it was hard to understand what was reality from illusion. The plot dragged in the first half with all the traveling despite teasing its action-packed nature. The twist at the end got me - as many other reviewers said it is unexpected, and that was one of the best parts. However, I’m undecided about reading on.
