The Perfect Girl by Gilly Macmillan

3.0

I received a copy of this book from Little, Brown Book Group UK and Netgalley for an honest review.

To everyone who knows her now, Zoe Maisey - child genius, musical sensation - is perfect. Yet several years ago, Zoe caused the death of three teenagers. She served her time. And now she's free.

Her story begins with her giving the performance of her life.

By midnight, her mother is dead.

This is the first book of Gillian Macmillan that I have read and I like her style of writing, but I'm not sure I would call this book 'a psychological thriller'.

The story is told from POV of several of the characters which I like as you get a different perspective on the same situation. Most of the main characters were fine, but I'm still not sure what the point of Sam's sections were. These sections could have been done as a flash back instead of being labelled "Monday morning" (which really didn't make much sense when it was memories from years ago). Overall the whole story fell a bit flat for me, not thrilling and certainly would not compare it to Gone Girl or Girl on the train (getting a bit boring these comparisons).

I would definitely give Gillian Macmillan's books another chance as I did like her storytelling style.
