FMC: Thea
MMC: Shepard “Shep”
Tropes: small town, suspense and mystery, roommates to lovers, hidden identity, found family, golden retriever x black cat, cinnamon roll hero
Spice Rating: 2.5
Series: Yes (Book 2 of the Sparrow Falls Series - Interconnected Standalone)
POV: Dual
Cliffhanger: No
I am overjoyed by Shep and Thea’s story. When they were introduced in Fragile Sanctuary, I just knew their story would be beautiful and it was.
Shep is understanding, patient, and a complete cinnamon roll. He’s the type of guy most women want. He cares deeply for others and is often overextending himself trying to take care of everyone around him. He also struggles with self-worth but he’s definitely worthy.
Thea is guarded, reserved, and doesn’t trust easily. She’s been hiding her true identity for years, keeping to herself and living a modest lifestyle with her cat, Moose.
Together they heal and find just a bit “more”.
As I will for every Catherine Cowles book, I highly recommend. Also, don’t forget to check out the bonus scene available at the end.

Moderate: Domestic abuse, Emotional abuse, Abandonment
Content Warning Note: Several mentions of abandonment which also plays a part in the MMC's self-worth issues. FMC dealt with emotional and psychological abuse in her past that is detailed throughout the story on page as she opens up more with those around her. Additionally, she also has nightmares and flashbacks that detail some events. The domestic abuse is related to a secondary character in this book which the main characters notice. Bruises and controlling behavior is mentioned.
