I can 100% see why this book was revolutionary when it came out in 2018. However, in 2025, there is a lot of this story which I felt very numb too, simply because this doesn’t feel as far away from the truth of the current religious extremism in America.
Tara’s story, however, is one that in times like this we must keep sharing. When we’ve got fascist groups spreading lies and perpetuating disgusting social ideas, it’s memoirs like Educated which remind people that education, empathy, and encouraged autonomy can only change people’s lives for the better.
If this a book that I will read 1000 times? No.
Is this an important book to read? Absolutely.
