Viper by Naomi Lucas

This was somewhere between 4 to 4.5 stars in rating.

Much like the other books I've read by Naomi Lucas, her world building was just as rich and vivid in this book. I love how she creates a world that you can just picture and imagine. While this book takes place on a post apocalyptic earth, it still feels so unique. It really feels like its own world. By the end of the book, it just feels convincing that its the Naga's world and the humans who landed there are the imposters. I also loved the mystery behind the Naga's origins and hope that that's something that we get to learn more about as the books go on. I have my own sneaky suspicions, given what Gemma saw in the bunker towards the end.

Beyond the incredible worldbuilding, I loved the characters and how different they were from the norm. Granted, Gemma felt a little too submissive at times, but she was still a very sweet character. Vruksha was just a straight primitive and possessive caveman. He had the whole "You Mate, Me Man" vibe going on. While the respect between the two of them was lacking through the first half of the book, it felt like they were finding mutual ground towards the end in both love and respect for each other. They truly felt like equals by the end, which I was glad for.

While I'm on the topic of our main characters, I want to add that the spicy scenes (while very spicy), just didn't feel completely authentic to me at times. Like Vruksha was completely enraptured, but it just didn't feel completely authentic on Gemma's part through some of the first few scenes. Mainly it just felt like she was influenced by his mating scent. Granted, this changed over the course of the book as she gained love and trust. I guess I just would have liked for there to have been a little more of an emotional connection or tenderness between them and for there to have been more respect for Gemma versus it feeling moreso one-sided in those scenes. Beyond this small complaint, I loved getting to witness their relationship form and blossom over the course of the book. Vruksha is as fierce as he is sweet. There's nothing he wouldn't do for Gemma. While Gemma was just a little bit simple, she was still fierce, brave, kind and loyal to Vruksha despite everything she's been through and their rocky start.

Moving onto the side characters, I just loved them! I love how hardcore all of the snakes were, Vruksha included! They were each different and unique. I can't wait to read each of their stories! Overall, I really enjoyed this book!
