Mediocre: The Dangerous Legacy of White Male America by Ijeoma Oluo
informative
fast-paced
5.0
Oluo had me from the prologue as Oluo is a fantastic and engaging writer, but the fact that she doesn't shy away from pointing out the white, male mediocrity of left-leaning darlings like Sen. Bernie Sanders truly makes this a standout read. She approaches the problem of white, male mediocrity from a historical, social, and psychological angle and it's effective and kind of depressing to realize just how all-encompassing it is, how there is no aspect of modern American life that exists without it. Her unflinching look at white male supremacy in the US is all the more impressive given just how much harassments and death threats and swatting events and doxxing that she has received over the years since she began writing, and all of that hasn't stopped her from speaking out. Truly remarkable read all around.
