The author raises some interesting questions in this book. The overall theme is intriguing.

Unfortunately I hated all of the characters. I couldn't relate to any of them. Most of the time reading I was annoyed by everyone's - especially Mae's - stupidity. There's no critical thought in her head. I don't find it believable how, at the Circle, they have the most toxic work environment and people have the most horrible political ideas but no one questions anything! There's not one sane character in the book. There are a few scenes in which Mae actually acts like a human being but shortly after an annoying man shames her about her behavior and she swears she'll never do something like that again. I understand that the author wants us to feel uneasy while reading because it's a dystopian world but at this point is simply frustrating and not fun to read at all. And how did Mae never realize that
Kalden is actually Ty? Just because he hides his hair and takes his glasses off, he suddenly looks like a different human being??
That just doesn't make any sense.

Overall this was not an enjoyable read for me.

The social media aspect of the Circle even seems a bit outdated to me (in 2024). Nowadays we're past the Facebook-"rush" and many people don't care about their number of followers and likes anymore. Mae obsessing about her number of followers and online interactions is just silly.
