easy 5 stars!

listen, i'm not one for standalone as i prefer to get totally immersed in a story/world within a series but this book totally didn't feel like one. it just feels right. the pace was not too rushed and gave the right impressions—thrilling when needed, mysterious and etc. the details and the world-building was not too compact nor too dense that everything was vividly beautiful. the developments weren't instant and progressed not too rushed or slow that everyone was given a chance to be known and shine. granted i haven't really read much standalones but still!

i love love love elisabeth, nathaniel, and silas. they're very charming. snarky and witty but also very loveable with subplots that add a lot of layer to each of their characters. but elisabeth, nathaniel, and silas together? interacting? bantering? their dynamic? OOOH. I WOULD DIE FOR THEM.

lastly, i love the concept and details, especially how books are in this world. they are like people with personalities and get sick. such small details but its absolutely delightful. elisabeth caring and loving books so much tugged on all of my bookworm heartstrings. the other themes/subplots were done well too!

if i have one complain, it'll be the ending. i thought it wasn't as strong as the rest of the book but, truthfully, it's just me wanting more story so i can stay a little bit longer in this wonderful world.
