‘Clueless Puckboy’ is the fifth book in the Puckboy MM hockey series. This one was another cute romance between a hockey player and his team’s trainer.
Ayri Quinn is the Clueless Puckboy in question, yet his character is so adorable in his awkward shyness, it was endearing to read—especially because we’ve all been there! At times his awkwardness could be seen as cringy, however it was just him. From the awkward moments in the treatment room to the avoidance. I definitely enjoyed seeing Quinn fumble his words around Vance, it made for an entertaining read.
“You. I know you said it shouldn’t be another person, but I say fuck that. I want it to be you. I’m sure about you. We’re it, Vancelicious,… I have hockey, and I have you. And that’s all I need to be happy.”
The clear as day crush Quinn had on Vance was all but visible to everyone but him. But it wasn’t as one sided as Quinn believed. Vance had his own attraction to the hockey player, however he was able to stay professional. But when he overhears a conversation things change because now he knows Quinn feels the same.
So when Quinn reinjures himself he needs someone to care for him for a few days. Vance impulsively offers up his time to help Quinn. They end up spending time together, getting to know one another and the close proximity further ignites their attraction to the other.
I like how supportive Vance was of Quinn, especially when it came to the struggle his was having with his hockey games. Quinn lacked confidence in his own ability, yet Vance knew he was more than capable, he just needed to get out of his own head. Vance never gave up trying to find new ways for Quinn to distract himself or to help build up his confidence.
While this was a fun, cute read,—and I found Vance and Quinn’s relationship to be on the healthier side compared to others in the series—the characters didn’t overly standout to me which is the reason for the lower rating as at times i did get a bit bored with it.
