The 1619 Project: A New Origin Story by Nikole Hannah-Jones
3.0

I had read several of the original articles when the 1619 Project was being published in the NY Times. At times, listening to the book made me feel overwhelmingly sad and slightly hopeless. While outlining many of the factors that led America to be what it is today, any progress made toward equality often feels negligible. Some of the information overlapped with what I had already read, or with other chapters within the anthology.

I appreciate that the audiobook features the authors reading their own works and the compilation includes pairings of shorter texts (poems, fiction, etcs.) with linked themes that precede each longer chapter.

I wouldn't say that I love this book, but it does provide powerful, heavy, and important information.
