This Man by Jodi Ellen Malpas
1.0

So I first read this book back in 2016 and thought I would reread it to see if I would have a different opinion about it now. NOPE! It’s still two a star read for me and I’m wondering again if I read a different book.

I’m honestly just wondering if all she writes are weak heroines and full blown OTT stalker types. I read Gentleman Sinner by her about two months ago and though the same thing. There was really nothing about Jesse or even Ava for that matter that was likable.

Was I supposed to swoon over Jesse? I’m all for a guy pursuing a woman and showing her that he’s interested. However, this guy was so pestering that it wasn’t even attractive at this rate. He claimed that he cared for her, but he was just controlling. Some of the lengths this man went through were astonishing.

My biggest issue with Mr. Jesse Ward was his inability to understand the word no. So many things happened where Ava wanted to get away from him and she would tell him to leave, get out, or just plain no and he wouldn’t do it. He would tell that it’s not what she really wanted. Even it if that were true, no means no!

Ava, good lord this girl was dumber than a doorknob. So many times I wanted to jump through this book and just shake her. Okay, let’s be honest, slap some sense into her. She gave into Jesse every damn time! She also thought he had a girlfriend at the beginning of this book.
Spoiler Instead of keeping up or defenses or at least even asking him about it, she sleeps with him. Ya’ll know I can’t stand that in my books. If you had a thought he taken you shouldn’t have done that. Even if he’s pestering you, you shouldn’t have done that.
I’ve honestly never seen sex make someone so weak.

All in all, I still have a lot of strong feelings about this book 3 years later. Just know if I met Jesse on the street, I’m kicking him in the balls and running away screaming.

----Original Review ----
This was another one of those books where I was wondering if I was reading the same as everyone else. I just couldn’t get myself to like Jesse. He was arrogant and thought way too much of himself. I enjoy an alpha male in my reads quite often, but I just couldn’t bring myself to like him. Every time Ava fought him I would rejoice. I wanted to like Ava, I really did. She was such a strong character... well before she met Jesse. She would turn into this annoying woman around him and it was hard to read. Anytime he would come around her, she acted as if she couldn’t stand her ground. Not a woman I want to read about. The relationship between these two was hard to read. I hated how controlling he was. He was way too possessive for my taste. All in all this book just was not for me.
