The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

5.0

"No one is just a victim or a victor. Everyone is somewhere in between. People who go around casting themselves as one or the other are not only kidding themselves, but they're also painfully unoriginal."

There is always something mesmerizing about Taylor Jenkins Reid's books. Her books have always been so inspirational and leaves some powerful messages. I have had the pleasure to read two of her books including Maybe in Another Life and Forever Interrupted in the past and they blew me away. But The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is just, EVERYTHING. The way this book was narrated by both Hugo and Monique is very enthralling. It makes you want to just read it all throughout and then read it again. It just sucks you in from the very first page. Like Monique, I have been very curious of Evelyn Hugo and the story of her fame and her seven husbands. This book didn't only tell the whole reality of Evelyn Hugo and her dirty secrets but it also tackled very important subjects like the ugly reality of Hollywood, abuse, power, culture, race and what it meant to be a bisexual in this industry and being part of the LGBT community. This book is so remarkable. There are no words on how to describe it. It has been a roller coaster of emotions and I was glad to be able to experience it through this book.

Evelyn Hugo might be fictional but she had made me realize a lot of things from the choices she made in her life. I have hope to be a better human being and to be able to live my life to the fullest with no regrets that Evelyn had wished to do. Kudos to Reid! Another masterpiece 🙌
