I was concerned about giving it such a low rating because it really does hit some excellent points for Americans to consider when thinking on race in our country and how we treat outsiders. I really loved that part of the book- being able to get a whole new perspective is always a great thing.

But that’s about it. For me the book was a little too slow and the ending really sucked.
I’m a child of divorce when I was a teenager and it’s left a sour taste in my mouth for any form of cheating. So how they ended the book with the reunion of Ifemelu and Obinze knowingly continuously cheating on his faithful wife Kosi really hit me hard. And the story doesn’t even get into the consequences of those actions. Just they were meant to be and apparently that’s that. And I know that that is a real life situation, but I don’t go searching for that sort of story and so finding it threw me off. Especially since this book really challenged a lot of right and wrong when it comes to how we treat others. Just was not how I wanted the book to wrap up.

So that being said, still glad that I read it, just will be donating the book immediately and will not recommend to friends like I had planned.
