Haunting Adeline by H.D. Carlton

This was the most disappointing excuse for literature I've ever seen in my life. The writing is juvenile, at best, and very clearly never saw the eyes of an editor. The characters are all two-dimensional Mary Sues with no depth, no growth, and no likable qualities. The plot is incohesive and barely coherent. Zade is not morally gray - he's a piece of garbage with a savior complex. All of the antagonists are caricatures of comic book villains who have zero redeemable qualities, so the author made it impossible for Zade to be morally gray. We have no reason to question him. Adeline is insufferable and rude, but the first 85% of the book is just her being repeatedly assaulted by Zade even though she screams and cries and audibly says "no" and "don't." It reads like it was written by a 30-year-old with third grade reading comprehension. There's cursing every two words (which is fine, if it's done for a reason) that does nothing to show character personalities, but does give the vibe that the author was raised in a sheltered home and views swearing as cool and rebellious. I would give this zero stars - negative stars - if I could. Absolute waste of time.
