I truly did not expect to enjoy this book as much as i did - and perhaps "enjoy" is not the right word, as i felt much anger, grief, hope, and shock while sifting through this poignant piece about what it is like to live in this world, in a fat body. Sifting through a plethora of arguments and with plenty of insight, Aubrey Gordon does a fantastic job at displaying - through personal examples, culturally relevant events, and research -how the vitriol and hatred found in anti-fat bias impacts fat individuals, not only on a psychological, emotional, and social level, but also on a medical, and professional level. She even goes so far as to display how anti-fat bias often becoming conflated with eating disorder or trauma narratives - an enormous disservice.

By acknowledging the complex social issues surrounding our bodies, Gordon does a fantastic job of addressing the intersectionality of fat-biases, as well as many of the ways in which the "health and wellness" industry is indeed hypocritical, and predatory.

I was surprised to learn as much as i did, and am devastated by how much weight is still conflated with "disease" or "morality" in our society. If you consider yourself an activist, healthcare provider/ work in an adjacent field, or just want to be overall more informed about the state of our culture? Do yourself a favor and read (or listen to!) this book.
