Jasper Fforde's "Shades of Grey" is about a dystopian future where your social standing is determined by your ability to perceive color. He provides the detail (too much) and humor (not enough) that Fforde fans expect. But sometimes it's hard to see the forest for the trees in this world he has created. Maybe that's why 5 years later, we have yet to see the planned second and third books in this series.
