Sylvie and Bruno by Lewis Carroll

challenging lighthearted mysterious slow-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? No
  • Loveable characters? Yes
  • Diverse cast of characters? No
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? No
This book plays with linguistics and narrative devices in a way that can lead to deep confusion. While the plot itself is quite whimsical, it can be hard to even understand it underneath the play in language and the narrator who switches between different roles of narration and participation. In the middle of the book, the plot steps more forward and the fairytale like elements are in the foreground. If one accepts the confusion and amusement of the nonsensical elements, this book is quite fun.
