Making a Scene by Constance Wu
4.25
challenging emotional funny reflective medium-paced

I am a huge fan of Constance, and went into this memoir with a lot of hope for what it could be. I was uncertain, within the first two chapters, that this book would be what I had hoped. Now that I have finished it, I am grappling with the idea that peoples lives aren't going to be what we hope, or what we think, because they are unique and lived experiences. What I had hoped the book would be was an unfair assumption to put onto another person's story. To read a book where the author pours their heart and soul into the words, into their life, and judge it based on other celeb memoirs is unfair and a little cruel.

It is clear that Constance Wu lives life to the fullest. She feels everything, forgets nothing, and is passionate and driven. I found comfort in how emotional she is, how she bears her heart and lets it break openly and publicly, how she stows away when distressed, how she has to grapple with her trauma over time and all at once.

This is a passionate memoir, full of heart and personal growth and humor in unsuspecting times.
