In Defense of Witches: The Legacy of the Witch Hunts and Why Women Are Still on Trial by Mona Chollet

challenging informative reflective medium-paced

3.75

Reads a bit like classic second wave feminist texts. Doesn’t have too much insight regarding intersectionality, the author instead focuses more on feminism through the lens of her older and single cis female perspective. This I found unique in its own right. I enjoyed it but wish there was more about witches and witch hunt history in conjunction with women’s rights issues today (as the book seemed to let on).

With that said, I think this book pairs well with the new BBC mini podcast series “Witch” which makes up for what this book might not have had. I’d also recommend reading this book along with “Women Who Run with the Wolves” and “Hags: The Demonization of Middle Aged Women.”
