P.S. I Spook You by S.E. Harmon
3.0
It was nice, but I had a few issues.
Rain is an FBI agent who upended his life in Brickell Bay for this new job. He wants to help the families of the victims in every way possible, and that may mean risk his job by looking like a crazy ghost-seeing person. After an administrative leave, he promises his boss to be on his best behaviour on his next mission: a cold case back home. It just so happens that: the ghosts didn’t get the memo, and he will be working with his ex, someone Rain still has very real feelings and who doesn’t know about his ‘issue’, something he also still has a hard time accepting.
First of all, what I liked:
Rain’s family is so funny.
Ethan! Best ghost ever and
Kevin is such a good friend and it shows.
What didn’t do well with me:
First of all, I didn’t get into the romance as much as I thought I would. Danny and Rain seemed out of touch with each other at every interaction.
The reveal of the unsub? Very on the nose.
Danny accepting quite easily Rain’s gift. But I think that’s because he also wanted to believe there was something else Rain wasn’t saying, and that may be it.
Amy. She appears once, and quickly disappears because she is still confused, and Rain doesn’t ask about her on his next encounter with Ethan, which, come on, isn’t it the priority? The next time Ethan appears, and he explains why, but why didn’t Rain ask before? He didn’t know that, everyone’s still learning. Not very detective-like.
Same goes for going alone to the VERY suspicious Margaret. WHY??
The condom issue. The first time, Danny says he’s clean and it’s ok not having a condom, which is fine, they didn’t have full on sex. But the second time, the condom breaks (a condom we didn’t even read about before) and Rain said it’s ok, which is fine, but what is the point then? And after that, another time, here comes the condom again. What was the goal of the broken condom? It didn’t bring nothing new to the plot or the story.
I did like the book overall and will follow through the series. The premise is fun.
