Before I picked this one up it was super hyped on bookstagram. I put it on my TBR. Then right before I go and read it I see all these negative reviews and well, I was pretty nervous to read it. However I am glad I did because I really enjoyed this one.
I LOVED the world building (prob one of my fav fantasy worlds), the political intrigue and Jude's character dev. I will say this one is def not romance centered, it is more Jude centered and politically focused. I really enjoyed this, but I could see how others would get annoyed with it since Jude and Cardan's relationship is incredibly hyped.
The only thing I was wanting more of were the perspectives from other characters. It would have been nice to see more of Cardan's perspective and character dev. I feel like he was not present throughout most of this novel. This one also took a bit for me to get into, but I was hooked around 50 pages in and finished relatively quickly.
This one did not wow me per se so no 5 star rating, but I am going to give it a 4.5 because I really enjoyed reading this one and am very excited to continue on with the trilogy.
