Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills

This was a very adorable book!

On a last day of summer party, Claudia overhears something she wasn't supposed to that puts her on the wrong side of the meanest girl in school. When they end up as partners on a school paper, they end up being forced into the school's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Soon Claudia finds herself making some new friends, and even a new romance.
But I guess it looked how some little part of me wanted things to look. Even if it was just for a second. Like some TV version of high school.
This book was adorable, plain and simple. The thing is that it reads pretty young, at least in my opinion. It's light and fluffy and cute, but sometimes it reminded me of a Disney channel movie even when they were cussing and talking about serious things. The main character is pretty sarcastic but she's a nice sarcastic that makes jokes all the time but is still super nice. The love interest is the same but a bit more quirky while still being fun.

Normally I can't read super young feeling YAs but I didn't mind it this time, I think I was charmed by the fluff. I've read so many YA contemporaries that take place majority in high school so I don't know why this one felt so young to me but it did. Maybe I really am just getting too old for this. (Don't @ me, I'll read what I want.) Or maybe it was just the writing.

Besides the cute romance, this book also has a strong female friendship that forms and just kept getting better. I loved their balance, and I loved all their talk of boy bands. Honestly I didn't even need the romance, the friendship was just so nice.

This is a personal pet peeve but there was a fair amount of the characters in this playing a MMORPG called Battle Quest and while I (sometimes) play those myself, I couldn't help but cringe when game things were explained.

Besides that, I don't really have any major complaints. It was fun and it was pure, and I enjoyed reading this one.
