A book I thought I wanted to read based on the synopsis that turned into a book I wish I hadn’t read—First, I know this was lit fic, but it was way too wordy for me. Once you get used to how it’s written, it becomes a disappointing book about girl who is sexually assaulted and no one does a damn thing. They all just stay in their rich, white world because they don’t want to “risk” anything. I know (or at least I’m hoping) the point the author was trying to make is about the reality of sexual assaults and how most victims aren’t believed or helped. It was just such a disappointing ending to read and I might’ve been able to swallow this storyline if it was written by a woman (side note: not that men can’t be assault victims but women have higher statistics of assault and the fact that the assaulted character was a girl makes it more ick that this story was contrived by a man). This one was not for me.
