Perhaps it was just poor timing, but I could not bear another story about domineering, moralizing religious patriarchs who determine the value of young girls based on racial purity or their maternal origin. It may be a fine story with many redeeming qualities, but I couldn’t wait for it to reach that part where the girl rises up to redeem herself and the foolish old men are revealed to be the scaredy pants clutching to power.
