We Don't Talk About Her by Andersen Prunty

4.0

I'm not sure what I just read, but I am still contemplating how your make pants made out of toilet paper actually work. Seriously though, there was so much about this story that is just bizarre.

I went in totally blind to this book, and I wasn't really sure what to expect. The cover is what caught my eye in the beginning, and then hearing others talk about how weird it was solidified my fate in reading this one.

It's hard to put in to words how the story made me feel. I was grossed out and horrified, but I also felt a little sad and slightly angry at Stella for her habit of taking advantage of others. Clint and Stella are both absolutely abhorrent characters, with little in the way of redeeming qualities. I loved the stalker vibes that I got near the beginning of the story, but then those vibes faded more to the background as the story progressed and shifted focus. Although I would have really appreciated some more creepy stalker behavior, what follows is an unexpected turn that I wasn't prepared for.

Prunty's writing was engaging and made even the most sickening acts seems somewhat "normal" within these pages, which is hard to believe, but it is certainly a hallmark trait of a writer who has immense skill. If you're in to some bizzaro horror, with a little comedy thrown in, and you can stomach some pretty nasty stuff, maybe give this one a try. It is a great one sitting binger, and you certainly won't want to put this strange little story down.
