I wanted to like this, but I just didn't. It felt like it was 2/3 exposition to 1/3 predictable plot. Shori herself was the only character who really felt distinct. Although it touches on some deep themes, I don't feel that it really explored them in depth.
I've seen people say that this was meant to be the first in a series, and that makes sense to me. I'd like to read more of Butler's work; this didn't really live up to my expectations.
