You have to really enjoy the best family aspect to love this book; I simply did not. They feel like they are circling the drain of the same dysfunction, which while realistic isn't exactly enjoyable to read. It felt as if the author only wrote down a couple bad qualities for each character and didn't bother to round them out after; every moment is just the same annoying trait applied to a new situation.

The book shines in the quiet moments away from most of the family, when it's just the mc and perhaps the children. Those three are far more interesting and compelling, but that's not the point of the book so we don't get much of it
