not a sequel, though it is set in the uglies universe. interesting view of what formed after the overthrow of the pretties regime. frey was a unique character with interesting motivations and life experience; i’ll be interested to see how she develops in the rest of the series. the romance felt a bit obvious and contrived, which was unfortunate since it drives the plot forward on a number of occasions. hopefully it’s more believable/natural in the remaining books.
