Ico is definitely the novelisation of a video game. I can _see_ many of the scenes as they're being described, and they look like they come from a video game! I know, surprise, right? But there's an uncanniness that's unique to the medium, and it doesn't always translate well. It's in the way the shadows slink from a void in the ground, the way sacrifice finds an extinguished torch at his feet, and the way the environment changes in response to his agency. It's decent, but it's more PS1-era Tomb Raider than it is Gormenghast.

And that's it, really. It's decent.
