I liked it. I will keep going with the series. BUT, content warning: there is literal gay bashing, and also a lot of hateful speech. Two gay men are badly beaten and a third is murdered, forcing Chief Van Alstyne and the Reverend Clare Ferguson to work together to stop the hate crimes.
The book was originally published in 2003, and maybe my memory is just fuzzy, or it’s because I was attending a fairly liberal college in 2003, but I could not believe some of the horrifying anti-LGBTQ things that were said by various characters.
