I cannot believe it took me this long to read this book. I loved how open and raw the story and prose are. I loved the story arch and the character development. I found myself smiling, laughing, and crying - all in one sitting.
For background, I loved this movie growing up and as I’ve gotten older, I’ve found a deeper love and appreciation for the story. It always surprises me that Steven Spielberg is the one who directed this movie, but upon reflection he did a masterful job.
Watching the movie first and reading the book second gave me such vivid imagery to draw on. They lifted so many direct quotes in the movie from the book, that it reads like a screenplay to one of my all-time favorite cinematic adventures.
Both the book and the movie are ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me. Also, in my opinion, this may be one of the best novel to screen adaptations of all time.
