I enjoyed this conclusion to Max’s story! I feel for him as he’s constantly facing fear and doubt in being his true self. Max is frequently misgendered in this volume. He also faces so much painful push back from some people and monsters. Despite this the community he has around him is very sweet and supportive. Rooting for Max all the way! Some of the emotional growth certain characters have feels a bit fast-tracked and unrealistic.
Personally, I found the pace of events in this volume much faster than in the first volume. There is a lot more action too. The way this story handles the idea of tradition was very compelling to me. It’s wild how a decision someone made long ago could impact someone many years down the line. Overall, I enjoyed how this story ended.
