I always thought that in a series the first book is always the best. T. J. Klune just proved me wrong!

Gordo and Mark's story was so heartbreaking and yet beautiful at the same time. I fell in love with the way these characters were written; they were so much more mature and deep than Ox and Joe (they were also older so that makes sense) and the whole story was so beautifully written and explained. Gordo's hatred was so justifiable but Mark's pain was too. They both made mistakes, and they both said things in the heat of the moment but they learned to listen to one another and to love who they have become.

As for the infection that can turn Betas into Omegas, it was unexpected but a really good plot point. My heart broke for those infected but mostly for Mark and Carter. Slowly losing their minds and their tether. It was terrible. It left me on the edge of my seat.

And while Robert Livingstone is a horrible father, he is such a good villain. The way he thinks and plans gives me chills; how he's always behind everything.

And that ending killed me. I hope nothing terrible happens to Robbie, he's such a sweetheart! But I can't wait to read his and Kelly's story!

Five stars, hands down. Definitely recommend!!
