Confessions by Kanae Minato

5.0

5/5: ‘Confessions’ is a Young Adult, Thriller by Kanae Minato; probing into the themes of ‘revenge’, as a basis for the maniacal plot. Yuko Moriguchi’s four-year-old child, Manami, is murdered on school-grounds; by none other than her pupils. Narrated in varying perspectives, portrays anecdotal insights into the announcement of Moriguchi’s impending retirement. Each chapter connects the dots for the underlying plot. The format of Chapter One being delivered as a Moriguchi’s final lecture (before resignation) is insightful, and cleverly developed, creating a realistic prose. Kanae Minato is phenomenal crime-writer, and story teller. Additionally, Stephen Snyder excels in translating the novel, creating suspense that makes putting the book down challenging. Fortunately, the film-adaptation too, is outstanding and correlates perfectly with the novel – both book, and film are 10/10 – the all-time personal favourite.
