Twilight Tenth Anniversary/Life and Death Duel Edition
by Stephenie Meyer
Beau and Edyth are so boring. Bella and Edward seem to be slightly more interesting in some way. I plan to re-read Twilight at some point, but ouch... this "retelling" was just something. I deeply disliked the new names. And I kept thinking of Royal as Rosalie and Archie (really, Archie?) as Alice and on and on. The original characters were way better. And why did everyone switch genders EXCEPT Charlie and Renee? How awesome it would have been to have a female sheriff of Forks named Claire and a slightly irresponsible dad named Randy?!
Also, the assault scenes frustrated me. They changed so much because of the change in gender. Men can be sexually assaulted. And I just realized how much Edward/Edyth was a bit emotionally abusive. Completely disregarding the wants/needs of Bella/Beau, yelling at them for apologizing and just all kinds of things that would be incredibly draining in a relationship.
I will always have a soft spot for Twilight. It was my first ever adventure into YA fantasy. I'm just not at all loving Life and Death.
