It's been a while since I've read something that forced me to close the cover and reflect every-so-often. I'd say Sontag's exploration of war/violence journalistic photography is a springboard for launching your own ideas and views of a variety of topics, including (but not limited to) what is art? what is the purpose of journalistic photography? at what point does photography of suffering subjects turn into exploitation? what feelings do/should viewers of violent photography have? is there a correct/better/preferred response?

I'll admit that I was in over my head in a few paragraphs, but it was refreshing to be challenged.
Maybe I'm just reading too much juv-fiction lately. :)
