Woman on the Verge by Kim Hooper
4.0
fast-paced

I understand why people loved this book until the last 20%. I loved how this book portrayed the ugly side of motherhood. Having to work and then come home to a “second shift” in the home is tough now but it was worse in the 80s. Men were just getting used to losing the ideal of a stay at home mom/wife. For those moms that work in the home, the amount of credit that isn’t received was and is still unacceptable. While a piece of fiction, this really digs into how women are always the first ones looked at when a sacrifice is needed for the kids. Whether that be her education, her job or her friends, it’s al okay becasue she has the maternal instinct.

Two parallels timelines where you see these women fight to claim their identify while dealing with a parent’s terminal illness, husband’s not realizing it’s hard for them too and trying to live a life of purpose without losing who they are in the process.
