A very simple but beautiful story about, not just old age, but also the importance of love and finding family in your community. Ove and Sanjya have a sweet love story, and the relationships built really warmed my heart. I felt his grief and struggle to keep up in a world that moved too fast. There were a couple classic Backman misdirection-emotional punches which didn't land as well as I would've liked and the story took a second to find its footing, but other than that I have no major critiques. A sweet story that fills me with hope and made me cry a lot.
Graphic: Suicidal thoughts, Grief, and Suicide attempt
Moderate: Death and Death of parent
Minor: Cancer, Domestic abuse, Homophobia, and Miscarriage
