To start, I must be truthful and say that I really struggled getting into it. It was slow and the three different 1st person POVs made it difficult to follow along. SO I waited for release date, and listened to the audiobook instead of reading the ebook.
After that, it was impossible to put down. The story was incredible, both the vampire aspect and the telling of the brutal history against Indigenous Americans. I loved the revenge aspect of it. “May 12, 1912” is one of the best chapters I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. The writing was phenomenal, the story was heart wrenching, and the narrators brought it to life in the most incredible way. I highly highly recommend listening.

Be warned, it is Extremely graphic. Stephen Graham Jones leaves nothing to the imagination and the vampirism is very gory. If you’re into horror, pick this up immediately. If you have a weak stomach, proceed with caution.

I also learned a lot about Blackfeet culture that was a very welcome addition to the story.
