Two words - Too long.
I miss Perrin’s vivid descriptions of sorrow and love that cut deep, like in Fresh Water for Flowers. That book felt like reading under the skin of the characters, with a clear story beautifully weaving past and present. This one follows the same structure, but just feels confusing. Too many side characters took up too much space. The language was “meh” and the characters didn’t feel real. At times it’s gripping, but most of the time I unfortunately found myself thinking, “what does this have to do with anything?”which broke the red thread of the story. If it had been shorter, tighter, and written with the same vivid style as the previous book, I probably would have liked it more.
