Ever Mine
by Laura Pavlov
What to Expect:
✨ Second-Chance Romance (high school sweethearts reuniting after 9 years)
✨ Workplace Romance (sports psychologist x NHL captain)
✨ Small-Town Vibes
✨ Forced Proximity
✨ Emotional Baggage
✨ A swoony, devoted MMC
Hawk and Everly grew up together, were everything to each other, and then—Everly broke things off right before they left for college. Hawk went on to become a superstar NHL player, while Everly pursued her career as a sports psychologist. They haven’t seen or spoken to each other in nine years (yep, NINE), but when Hawk’s career starts crumbling under a toxic coach, his team hires a sports psychologist to help him out.
Enter Everly.
The moment they reunite? Instant tension. Hawk is still holding onto the idea of Ever After (his nickname for her? Swoon), while Everly is desperately trying to keep her walls up. She’s been through so much—losing her mom, building a life for herself away from her past, and trying to move on from Hawk. But the thing is? She never really did. And Hawk? The man never let her go
The angst? SHE WAS ANGSTY... Hawk needed answers, and he wasn’t afraid to push for them. And when he finally started to give up after fighting for them for so long? Oof. It hit hard. Everly, on the other hand? Girl, we all knew you were still in love with him. Seeing her struggle with admitting it was painful but also so real
And then… we get to that moment. The family BBQ confession. The sudden outpouring of emotions. And while I loved seeing Everly open up, I do think this moment could have been handled with a little more build-up—it felt rushed compared to the slow-burn tension earlier in the book and I am sorry but it just made NO sense for Everly as a character to burst out in the middle of a family BBQ dinner but oh well -- choices --
Hawk was an amazing devoted, protective, all-in hero, and Everly was strong, independent, and so afraid of getting hurt again. However, this was not my favorite by any means but I am excited for the next one!!!
