I wasn't sure where the author was going to take this book after the last one in the series. But she did an excellent job of creating suspense while weaving in some of Gwen and her family's history, but adding a new twist and getting one step closer to creating a series that could stand alone. She has set herself up nicely to continue Gwen's story and take it in another direction.
