The Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley

3.0

"The Ministry of Time" by Kaliane Bradley is a genre-melding, time-travelling story about what happens when the British government gets its hands on new technology. During its research phase, "expats" are extracted from their doomed timelines to see how they adapt to the 21st century. A woman trained to help new arrivals reacclimate is assigned an expat known as “1847” or Commander Graham Gore. She brings him up to date on the current world. Most of the novel focuses on conversations between them.

This was a fascinating read. I enjoyed the time travel aspect; most characters were beautifully explored. It was odd that the main character was never named, while the others, including her family, were named. This took me out of the story. The book also concluded rapidly; it feels like the first in the series. Overall, I enjoyed my read but do not think I will revisit it. However, if there is a second book, I would probably read the next in the series.
