I enjoyed the overall premise of the book, along with the drawing aspect. The author did a nice job of giving you enough detail to relate to the characters—for the most part. I did find it a bit hard to relate to the main character, Mallory. There were some plot points that could have been edited out. For example, the religious bits seemed forced and felt out of place. I think the story could have been told without that aspect (I know it's a part of AA, but that also didn't play a huge part besides backing up Russell's character). I like that I couldn't guess the ending, which is refreshing!

In general, I think women characters are better written by women, so there is always a struggle to accept a female protagonist written by a man. This was no exception and it stood out.
