The Hero of Ages

Loveable characters:

There's such a beauty and ease of worldbuilding that Sanderson conveys in his writing. For this book I thought the explanations of the koloss and the kandra were fantastic and so eerie at the same time. Although I should have seen given that the Lord Ruler could manipulate the great houses and the skaa bodies. Taking the trilogy as a whole, this book is a beautiful end that isn't happily every after but in a way it is. I knew the earring was important and yet it was for a totally opposite reason than I thought. In the end, Vin was quite special but also not special.
For me,authors who cannot kill off main characters do an injustice to readers and the worlds they build. Sanderson does not have this problem, and it works so well. We know Kelsier died, others from the crew did in the 2nd book, too. RIP Clubs, especially. So the final chapter, I had to read twice. To fully absorb all that happened. Not only did Sazed get a wonderful ending, his battle with depression and faith, really his whole life in general, is so moving. Sanderson really lets you feel and connect with this character. Sazed piqued my interest from his first scene in Mistborn and following him through everything, especially the love and loss of Twindyl, it was what really sold the books to me. The final chapter also had the prophecy/Terris religion fit so well without being cheesy. Also, killing Elend and Vin in the end felt right, all things considered. The trust that was formed between the two of them had me tearing up, especially how well Vin handled El being killed in the end. The final line, too, before the epilogue of Sazed praising Vin just had me bawling.
Yes, the pacing was better in the other two books imo, and yes,I was pissed about the (very necessary but infuriating) ending of the Well of Acension but to finish out the trilogy in this way, I thought was beautiful. I don't give 5 stars out to very many books, but I think The Hero of Ages deserved it.
For me,
Yes, the pacing was better in the other two books imo, and yes,
Graphic: Mental illness, Violence, Grief
Minor: Physical abuse
